Back End Developer

About This Roles:
As a Back End Developer, you will be responsible for developing server-side logic, APIs, and database structures that support our web and mobile applications. You’ll collaborate with front-end developers and product teams to deliver reliable and efficient solutions.
This is a 24 month contract role with the possibility of conversion to full-time based on performance and project pipeline. It suits someone with 2–3 years of experience who wants to focus on back-end technologies while contributing to high-impact projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement robust server-side logic to support application features and business requirements.
- Develop and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performance APIs for frontend and third-party integration.
- Ensure databases are structured, optimized, and reliable for efficient data management.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions to maintain uptime and stability.
- Apply data validation, access control, and security best practices throughout development.
- Collaborate closely with front-end developers, product managers, and QA teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
- Support deployment activities and contribute to continuous integration and delivery practices.
- Maintain clear documentation for APIs, workflows, and system architecture to support ongoing development.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 2–3 years’ experience in back-end development.
- Strong experience in PHP 8+ with Laravel framework (routing, ORM, middleware, queues).
- Proficiency in MySQL/MariaDB: schema design, indexing, query optimization, and migrations.
- Understanding of Linux server environments and ability to configure/manage Nginx for application deployment.
- Proficiency in designing and consuming RESTful APIs (GraphQL is a plus).
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative version control workflows.
- Knowledge of security best practices (OWASP, authentication/authorization, SQL injection prevention).
- Basic understanding of testing practices (unit testing, integration testing).
- Ability to optimize performance and scalability of back-end systems.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Redis/Memcached for caching and session handling.
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
- Familiarity with Docker or containerized deployments.
- Awareness of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, DigitalOcean) for scaling and hosting.
- Knowledge of API documentation tools (Swagger/OpenAPI, Postman).
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
- Understanding of event-driven architectures (queues, Kafka, RabbitMQ).
